Instagram for Small Fashion Labels: What Actually Sells

Followers are not customers. A label with four thousand engaged local followers can outsell one with forty thousand scattered ones. The difference is what gets posted and what happens in the DMs.

The four post types that carry a label

    Product on a real body

Movement, fit and daylight. Flat lays alone rarely convert.

    Process

Cutting, stitching, finishing. It justifies your price better than any caption.

    Proof

Customers wearing it, fitting videos, honest reviews.

    Point of view

Why you make what you make. This is what people follow.

Garments being photographed in natural light
Daylight, a plain wall and a real body beat an expensive shoot.

    Captions that lead somewhere

Name the fabric, the fit and the occasion. Give the price or say plainly where to get it. Ask one small question. A caption that ends in a full stop ends the conversation; a caption that ends in an invitation starts a DM.

    Turning DMs into orders

Reply within the hour, send two options not ten, quote a clear price and a clear delivery date, and follow up once after two days. Keep a simple sheet of every enquiry. Most small labels lose more sales to slow replies than to price.

    Working smarter with AI

Brand owners now use AI to draft captions in their own voice, plan a month of content in an hour, and visualise a colourway before producing it. It removes the admin, not the personality — the taste in the feed still has to be yours.

Plan a month at a time and posting stops feeling like a chore.

Post like a maker, reply like a shopkeeper

Show the work, answer quickly, and the feed starts paying rent.
